It really doesnt hurt all that much. Try it out and you'll know what we mean.
Although it is preferred to have your own gear, it is not required. The fields we go to for practice offer marker rentals for about $5/$10.
Unfortunately, Paintball is the most expensive sport you can find if taken seriously. Thankfuly, we have a team budget that helps our players with practice and tournament costs. If you are coming out to try the sport you will probably spend:
-Feild Entry: $10
-Rental: $10
-C02(gas to power the marker): $5
-Paint: $20
All experiences players understand the the most expensive part of playing is paint cost. As you play more, you shoot more paint. Under more extreme circumstances such as in a tournament, a player can spend upwards of $100 on Paint alone. Keep in mind experienced players usually purchase their own equipment as well. A rough estimate of speedball equipment is as follows:
Needed
-Mask: $40
-Gun: $100-$1000 ($300 average)
-Pack(holds paintballs): $30
-Air Tank(powers marker): $150
-Pods(holds Paintballs): $10
Total:$530
Extra
-Jersey: $40
-Paintball Pants: $60
-Gloves: $20
-Tank Cover: $30
-Hopper: $80
-Gun Upgrades(Barrel, Trigger, Bolt, ect.): $200
-Cliets: $40
Total:$470
Again, this equipment is NOT required for you to try it out. Our team will make sure you have necessary equipment to play.
One of the main differences between Speedball and woodsball is the location of play. Speedball is usually played with air bunkers. Woodsball is played in the woods or in senario type housing. It is because of this location change that speedball and woodsball players have different types of markers. Woodsball markers are usually reliable in many weather conditions while some electronic markers used in Speedball would die. Speedball markers are fast, the high end models shoot upwards of 30 bps. Speed is necessary for forcing your team upfield to get to key bunkers.
For a speedball marker you want something to shoot fast that is reliable. The gun you buy depends on how much you want to spend. An ION is relatively cheap and if anything goes wrong the team is farmilliar with its internals. Markers that are easily dissasembled are highly recommended if you have the money. If you have a little more to spend, a Dangerous Power G3 is a great marker for its price. If these markers do not satisfy you an Eclipse EGO 06/07/08 will not fail you. Keep in mind that you should always do research on your marker before buying. After buying your marker reading your manual will save you a lot of trouble.
Of course, one of our team goals is promotion of the sport through having players comming out and trying it. Email ubpaintball@gmail.com and come out to play.
There is much administrative work that happens behind the scenes that students dont realize. You can always help us with coaching strategies, promotion of events, fundraising ideas, record video, take photos and much more!
